The bulky waste service is for residential properties only.

Booked items must only be presented at the front of your property at the point nearest the curtilage. We will not enter properties / garages / carports or rear gardens. Our crew will not knock on your door if your item is not visible. We will not collect from behind a gate, even if the gate is open.

If you have a large property it may be difficult for the crew to find the items. Therefore we recommend that you contact our call centre on 0115 9013621 to discuss and prevent any disappointment.

Items placed in a communal bin area must be stored safely, please do not block access to the area or to the bins. All items should be stored in such a manner that there is no risk to the safety of others.

There are three waste categories:
  • electrical,
  • soft furnishings
  • 'other'
There are only four items that fall under the soft furnishings category: Armchair, Ottoman, Pouffee and Settee. A mattress is not a soft furnishing under the legislation guidance and can be found in 'other'

If you cannot find your item in one category please check in the other two. Do not log an item under a different description as it will not be collected.

If you cannot find your item in any of the categories, we do not accept them.

We can only collect your items if the following criteria have been met, otherwise, some or all of your items may not be collected:
  • Only items listed when making a booking will be collected
  • Soft furnishings that can soak up water must be covered and kept dry
  • Unfortunately we are unable to guarantee that any coverings will be returned.
  • Mattresses and Bed Settees must not be soiled, please contact a private contractor for these items
  • Microwaves should have the glass plates removed
  • We cannot take doors that contain glass or mirrors
  • Fridges and freezers should have food and internal glass shelves removed and be defrosted
All items must be out by 6am on the date of collection. 48 hours' notice must be given for any changes to a booking. Any changes made after this may be subject to a further charge.

Data Protection

We will use the information provided by you for providing waste collection services. The basis under which the Council uses personal data for this purpose is that it is necessary for the performance of a contract between you and the Council.
